Buy Lucius Banda new album :Time here
All is now clear for the long awaited Malawi News Model of the Year which Times Group has finally announced that it will be held on September 27 at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

The announcement parries away speculations that the event, which is held annually, would not take place this year.

Times Group Sales and Marketing Manager Dumisani Ngulube said all is well with the Malawi News Model of the Year adding that they have deliberately set September 27 for the event as it also coincides with World Tourism Day.

He further said that this year the event will be headlined by Balaka based musician Lucius Banda.

“This is great because we are having such a top musician gracing Malawi News Model of the Year for the first time and this tells you something that it will be great,” said Ngulube.

He also said that they will be using Entertainers Promotions equipment for the event. Lucius who is one of the successful musicians in the country with over 15 studio albums said he will perform at the Malawi News Model of the Year 2012.

Ngulube while admitting that they have delayed in holding the Malawi News Model of the Year 2012 added that this was due to the change of the delivery format of the event.

“We are looking at doing it differently and better. We have engaged new partners to the event. I am glad to mention that the loose ends with our partners are now in place and we have a healthy conversation geared to make this event yet another big success like we have done over the years,” he said.

According to Ngulube, this year Times Group is working with Elegant Resources led by Dawa Loga Lamberger, Continental Outdoor and some of the country’s top designers in driving the Malawi News Model of the Year 2012.

“Elegant Resources brings a lot of value in terms of equipping the girls with the right modeling tools through their network. Our conversation with Continental Outdoor is to engage and align Malawi News Model of the Year to the concept of recycling.

We intend to adopt the used flexi (used billboard PVC) and engage our top models to race on creativity. We would like the event to generate valuable conversation around greenness, recycling, creativity, and modeling – ever imagined how our clothes will look like 2050?,” said Ngulube.

Malawi News Model of the Year 2011 was Thoko Kamanga, who however was stripped of her crown after being found on the wrong side. The Malawi News Model of the Year started on January 21, 2005 and some of the past winners include Bettina Chimwaza (2005), Evelyn Kamtwanje(2006), Monase Nyirongo(2007), Faith Chibale(2008), Tina Kendricks(2009) and Gladys Kumbatira(2010). – By Sam Banda Jnr
