An Accounts Assistant for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Patrick Sithole has been arrested for alleged illegal possession of K120 million which was in different currencies.

According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Kingsley Dandaula, Sithole was arrested on September 7, 2013 following a tip off that the police got from the suspect’s housemaid who in fact stole part of the money.

“We got a report from our colleagues in Blantyre saying that they had arrested a woman who was found in possession of over K3 million cash and after she was questioned she revealed that she got the cash from her boss, (the suspect) in Area 47, Lilongwe,” he said.

He said the woman who is Sithole’s maid led the team of CIDs to the suspect’s residence in Area 47 where the Police found some more money.

“We found over K80 million in a brand new Toyota Fortuner without registration number that the suspect had just bought and about K30 million in a Toyota Vits,” Dandaula said.

The Police Publist also said they found about US$3,000 and R127,000 that was kept in the suspect’s house. Sithole, 27, comes from Chitedze Village in the area of T/ A Dambe in Mchinji.

Dandaula said they had first charged him of possessing property suspected to have been stolen and illegal possession of foreign currency.

“Meanwhile we are keeping Sithole in police custody, waiting to appear in court,” said Dandaula.— Mana
