The claims that the 2014 elections are to be rigged by the ruling PP have been flying in the air for long and now fresh allegations have been added to it: figures of registered voters from Thyolo, Phalombe and Mulanje (areas considered to be DPP stronghold) are unbelievably low.

According to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), so far the three districts have registered a total of 679,706 minus two constituencies that are yet to be registered.

The figure is a far cry from the one that was registered in 2009 which has prompted some quarters to question the figure.

Earlier, there were irregularities in the way MEC administered the registration in Phalombe.
