In the afternoon, it was a fear by the DPP camp. Now, it is a reality.
The whistle-stop tours that were to take place in Lilongwe of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party have been stopped by the government operating under the guise of city authorities.
According to reports, government has said that with the tension that was in Lilongwe earlier this week amongst vendors it is impossible for such a gathering to be allowed. It is believed that the vendors might take advantage of the situation and cause much chaos in the city.
As we came to press, there was yet to be gotten a reaction from the DPP even though earlier in the day the National Organizing Secretary for the party, Chimwemwe Mazabuka Chipungu, had communicated through facebook that come what was to come the party was going ahead with its whistle-stop tours in the city.
While in power, the DPP did the same to UDF and when UDF insisted on going ahead with the rally, police teargassed UDF supporters and arrested its leader, Atupele Muluzi.
