It might be the realisation that age is no longer on his side, it might be that finally he has listened to the voices that always hovered over him calling for his graceful exit, or even for the more sensual it might be the fact that Moses Kumkuyu was linked to the constituency, but the final verdict is one: John Zenus Ungapake Tembo, the longest serving parliamentarian has finally announced that he is quitting.

Tembo has announced that come 2014, he is not contesting on the Parliamentary seat for Dedza south constituency. He has been the member of parliament for that constituency since the 1960s.

He made the announcement at a rally organized by the MCP President, Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, in the constituency. However, Tembo hinted that he is going to support the candidate who is going to stand on an MCP ticket in the constituency so as make sure that the party maintain the constituency.

Meanwhile, reports have linked the current minister of information, Moses Kumkuyu, to the constituency.
