Some supporters of the rebranded Malawi Congress Party were involved in an accident yesterday at Bunda round-about when the car they were travelling in had its doors opened as the driver tried to negotiate a corner.
The supporters were travelling to Masintha ground where the party President, Lazarus Chakwera, was holding his first ever rally in the Capitol city at that venue that is considered to be the political barometer of the Capitol city.
Chakwera’s rally came barely a week after the DPP candidate, Peter Mutharika, had held his rally at the very same venue after gracing the city of Lilongwe with whistle stop tours.
Eyewitnesses reported that most party supporters, mostly women, had broken limbs and legs from the accident. They further said that the 10 tonner lorry, DC 5449, was overspeeding before being involved in the accident.
