Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has hit at government and what it calls paid up journalists over claims that MK 90 billion was lost at the Capitol Hill when the DPP was in power from 2009 to 2012.
The Nation newspaper reported last week that an audit report had revealed that the DPP had oversaw the looting of MK 90 billion but had decided to sweep the issue under its carpet.
However, in a press statement signed by the Party Secretary General, Dr. Jean Kalirani, the Democratic Progressive Party has described the audit as a lie and the report as an aim by government to tarnish its image which, it claims, is of a changed party.
The party has further asked anybody who has evidence over the allegations to come forward with the evidence so that they can take an action on the individual involved in the looting of government coffers.
The DPP has promised to deal with any of its party members who will happen to have been involved in the looting for, according to them, most of the people involved moved with the Country’s President at the death of former President, Bingu wa Mutharika, and formed the new government that has witnessed the mother of all lootings.
The party has asked the State President to stop commenting on the alleged MK 90 billion loot unless she has evidence over the same. It has also asked what it terms ‘paid journalists’ to desist from making the allegations.
