Malawi’s donor partners under the Common Approach to Budgetary Support (CABS) have frozen direct budgetary support with immediate effect in light of the Cashgate scandal.

Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that the donor partners have agreed to suspend all their budgetary aid to Malawi until such a time when investigations into the plunder in Capitol hill coffers are concluded.

This is not the first time that Malawi has seen donors freezing their aid; donors last froze their aid when President Mutharika was alive and the nation was plunged into chaos with a shortage of almost everything from fuel to the basic medications.

When President Banda took the seat of the President, however, donor confidence was restored and aid got trickling in and thereby stabilizing the situation for sometime before it got bad again with shortage of drugs in hospitals and, now, the Capitol hill looting aka Cash-gate scandal.
