The woes on energy in the land seem to be far from over as the country’s sole provider of electricity, ESCOM, has disclosed that it plans to go on an automatic pricing mechanism as is the case with fuel.

ESCOM has included this in its infamous application to MERA that it wants its tariffs hiked as of January 2014.

In the same application, ESCOM has appealed to MERA that it should let its prices be dictated by the foreign exchange rate prevalent at that particular time.

The decision pends approval from MERA which has organized a series of public hearings in all the three regions of the country so as to get a response from the public on various issues to do with ESCOM and the energy sector in general.

If allowed to be adjusting basing on the value of the U$, ESCOM will join the fuel field within the same energy sector which operates on the same principle but has left many Malawians groaning under its weight.
