Government says shot Director of Budgeting in the Ministry of Finance, Paul Mphwiyo, will be back in the country ‘very soon’ and will face the Public Accounts Committee of parliament. The remarks by government dispel media reports that Mphwiyo was already in the country and was just evading PAC.
Government has disclosed that Mphwiyo is still in the rainbow nation expected to undergo final reviews from which after that he will come back to Malawi and he will eventually have to meet PAC.
Government has disclosed this through the spokesperson in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Arthur Chipenda.
Paul Mphwiyo, shot on the night of September 13, is the Director of Budgeting in the Ministry of Finance and his shooting is what is believed to have been the genesis of the Cashgate scandal.
Police have since made arrests in connection to the shooting and one of those arrested is the former minister of justice, Ralph Kasambara, and his bodyguard then.
