The High Court sitting in Lilongwe has denied bail to suspect Pika Manondo on the grounds that he is a flight risk.
The court has further ordered Manondo to be in custody for 50 days without bothering them for any bail application.
Pika Manondo is being accused of making an attempt on the life of ex Director of Budgeting in the Ministry of Finance, Paul Mphwiyo. Days after Mphwiyo’s shooting, Manondo was nowhere to be seen and reports indicated that he had fled out of the country.
Later, he surrendered himself to the Police in Karonga after making entry into the country through the Songwe border.
It was then revealed that police had given him an offer that he implicate former Minister of Justice, Ralph Kasambara, in the shooting of Paul Mphwiyo and he would get a fair deal.
However, Manondo refused it and since then the winds of favour he seemed to be getting from the government through the Police started blowing against him.
