Kasungu Teachers Training College (TTC) has today sent back its Open Distance Learning (ODL) students after they had staged a demonstration over unpaid allowances and shortage of food on the campus.
The development comes barely months after St. Joseph’s TTC in Dedza was as well closed due to insufficient funds meant at running the institution.
Malawi reels at a shortage of teachers and, at the same time, it has many people who finished school at Secondary level with grades that can see them into the teaching system. The ODL was introduced as a way of reducing the teacher-student ratio in the country.
The students were expected to be out of the College on January 14 but the College has been forced to close after the demonstrations by the students.
