It was rare. It was shocking.

At the National Day of Prayers last Friday, President Joyce Banda shocked the congregants at COMESA hall in the Commercial city of Blantyre when she alleged that the Cashgate scandal could not have involved her ministers as they are not versatile with the computer and the internet.

Speaking before a crowd f Christians, Muslims and people of other faiths except George Thindwa’s Secular humanism, President Banda said that the IFMIS, which was abused, was not abused by her ministers as most of them — not in her actual words of course — are dumb when it comes to computers.

However, President Banda’s remarks were dismissed as untrue by commentators for some of her ministers are even in the social networking sites and were given laptop computers by the Parliament for those who double their roles as MPS and Ministers.

“The remarks by the President are just a way of shielding her own political thieves but there is no truth in them,” said one commentator.
