The Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (FISP) fertilizer which was introduced by the late President, Bingu wa Mutharika, is yet to be accessed by its beneficiaries at a time when the days have already gone that people had to have the fertilizer not in their homes but applied to their gardens.
According to reports, most people are still keeping their coupons for buying the fertilizer which sells at MK 500 after being turned away from the ADMARC depots on the grounds that the fertilizer is not available.
The development comes after the programme was met by another setback last farming season after it was discovered that the bags of the fertilizers had sand mixed in them.
Malawi country faces a food shortage which has as well been attributed to the mess with the FISP as in its earlier days it made the nation food sufficient.
