The family of the former President, Bingu wa Mutharika, has told the President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Lazarus Chakwera, that it will not be possible for him to pay homage to the fallen leader at his Mpumulo wa Bata mausoleum at Ndata village in Thyolo district.

While acknowledging that the gesture is an honourable one from the MCP leader, the family has said that it would not be possible as there is an injunction that the government obtained against the BINETH trust of which the Mpumulo wa Bata mausoleum is part of.

The MCP President is in the Southern region where he has been conducting whistle-stop tours and rallies up to the 18th of January and he had indicated that he wanted to lay a wreath on the tomb of the fallen leader whom he has described as visionary despite his shortfalls in other categories of which human rights is among them.
