The first ever Malawi music awards have not gotten all the pomp they deserved to get after some critics have hit hard on them for what they perceive as a failure by the organizers to properly manage the categories and even the span being covered by the awards.
An observation conducted by FaceofMalawi has revealed that most people who are conversant with Malawian music are in an awe as to how the awards have been organized and the arrangement that the awards have followed.
“I think the organizers of this award are not serious,” wrote one critic of the awards on the Facebook event page created by the organizers. “How can you include such songs as Part of Life and Sinditha Kumvetsa in a list of 2014 awards?”
Apparently, the person was referring to the inclusion of Dan Lu’s 2012 hit, Part of Life, and Armstrong’s 2012 song as well.
Others have queried as to how the musicians were placed in the categories they have found themselves in with some citing the case of Joseph Nkasa being found in the Reggae/Dancehall category.
Meanwhile, the organizers have said that as this is an inaugural edition then for certain people will have grievances but they will be improving as they go along.
The awards are expected to be held at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on January 24.
