Some concerned Malawians have gone on a campaign lobbying government to halt the oil exploration on Lake Malawi. The development comes days after a Senior Chief in Karonga had uttered the same statement claiming that government had to halt the process until the discussions with Tanzania over the ownership of the lake were finalized.
However, the concerned citizens are arguing on the grounds that the lake is of a particular importance to the Malawi nation and thus, it should not be explored.
The group has taken to online lobbying and there is a petition that one can sign online to join the cause in petitioning the government to halt its oil exploration on the fresh water lake.

The government of Malawi is yet to make a statement on the petition.
