Vice President of the Peoples’ Party (PP) in the Southern region who was also the minister of transport until today has announced that he has resigned from the party and his ministerial post with immediate effect.

Mia has announced the decision this afternoon. He has become the second Vice President of the party to quit it after the party’s Vice President for the Central, Cassim Chilumpha quit it as well.

According to the information we have obtained, Mia has not disclosed his reasons for dumping the ruling but others have alleged that it is for the reality that is on the ground which has placed Joyce Banda’s Peoples’ Party on a bad footing with the electorate that has forced him to quit the party.

Mia’s movement will greatly hit the PP in light of the elections that are to take place in May.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Mia will be moving to the Malawi Congress Party. FaceofMalawi is yet to confirm the rumours.

Mia was voted as the party’s Vice President for the South at a party convention where he trounced over one of the founders of the party who is the current minister of information, Evangelist Brown James Mpinganjira.

It has been said that more members are expected to defect from the party and move to the opposition as the 2014 elections approach.
