Chief suspect in the Cashgate scandal, Oswald Lutepo, has this afternoon submitted his nomination papers to stand as a Member of Parliament for Kasungu North on an independent ticket.
According to a local radio station, Oswald Lutepo, who had earlier on announced his resignation from active politics after his arrest submitted his papers this afternoon and when asked he did not hide his ambitions of standing for the Parliamentary seat.
Oswald Lutepo is being accused of embezzling funds amounting to MK 2.6 billion through his companies.
Once a member of the ruling Peoples’ Party (PP), Lutepo is said to have bought some of the cars that the party uses and are painted in orange.
At the height of his imprisonment, Lutepo was fired from his party as its deputy director of recruitment and sensitization and he announced that he had quit front-line politics.
Reports have always indicated that the state President, Joyce Banda, is connected to Lutepo and that is why his case has been dragging.
