Peoples’ Transformation party (PETRA) president, Kamuzu Chibambo, has withdrawn from the Presidential race with only hours to go before the submission of his papers as a Presidential candidate.

According to a local radio station, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) officials have confirmed the withdrawal of Kamuzu Chibambo who has never contested in any election as a President ever since his party was formed.

Chibambo has told the Commission that he does not have the MK 1 million that the Commission is demanding on the Presidential candidates and, thus, he was pulling out of the Presidential race.

Chibambo has joined the two independent candidates who have already pulled out of the race with one of them, Thoko Tembo, suggesting that he had pulled out because the process was fraudulent.
