Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda has described the donation by government of the United Arab Emirates as timely one.
She said this at Kamuzu Palace after receiving a donation of 13500 metric tonnes from UAE through Khalifa Bin Zayed AI Nahyan Foundation.
“I am very pleased to see that the mutual relationship between the two countries is bearing fruits. This donation has come at the right time . When i visited the United Arab Emirates , I asked for food relief knowing that my people will be face by hunger’, she said
Meanwhile Abdulrahim Jani, who made the donation on behalf of the United Arab Emirates disclosed that after an appeal by President Banda, his government through the foundation thought it wise to come in and assist.
“The mission of our foundation is to support the needy and when President Banda made an appeal we decided to come and help the needy Malawians”, he said
The donation is expected to help about 7500 families who have been hit by hunger.
