The United Democratic Front (UDF) and the ruling Peoples’ Party (PP) are the only major parties that will field parliamentary candidates in all 193 constituencies of the land, reports indicate.

According to the Malawi Electoral Commission, the two parties have indicated that they will field candidates in all constituencies with DPP falling short of one candidate.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) finished receiving nominations for the parliamentary and Presidential race on Friday and has made that declaration that the DPP has run short of a candidate, a development that has also been confirmed by the party spokesperson, Nicholas Dausi.

Meanwhile, the ruling PP has also cautioned all independents who failed in the party primaries to stop associating themselves with the party by, among others, not using the party symbols and slogans claiming that the only candidates they know are those they declared as winners in the party primaries.

The decision comes barely days after the party expelled some of its executive party members for opting to stand as independents.
