Government mouthpiece who is also the minister of information, Evangelist Brown Mpinganjira, has told off the activists who addressed a press conference yesterday claiming that President Banda should be barred by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for contravening section 80 (7) of the constitution on election matters.

Addressing journalists this afternoon at a press conference, Mpinganjira said that what the activists were calling for was not possible and it was just a dream which will not happen.

A group of activists yesterday addressed a press conference where they called on the electoral body to bar President Banda and her running mate, Sosten Gwengwe, from contesting in the May elections for sticking to their public positions despite them vying for the hot seat in the land, a thing which is against the constitution.

However, another area has quashed the claims by the activists claiming that it is just motivated by other factors as the other Presidential candidates did the same that Banda has just done.

MEC chairperson, Justice Maxon Mbendera said that there cannot be a vacuum in the office of Presidency on the day he received the nomination papers from President Banda and he called on her to just level the playing field.
