Consumer Association of Malawi (CAMA) Executive Director John Kapito has trashed the Credibility of the recent forensic report on the fire that destroyed Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) head office in Blantyre on October 18.
South African Incendium Fire Investigation Firm revealed that there were insufficient interpretable fire patterns to allow for determination of an area of fire origin during the interior inspection.
CAMA Executive Director strongly faulted the report findings saying the report leaves a lot to be desired.
” Looking at the sentiments coming from ESCOM we doubt the credibility of the report.
“Someone somewhere is playing hide and sick. for sure this report has been manipulated by an insurance consultant who, in our case did not understand the key issues that the people of Malawi believed to have been the cause of the fire”, said Kapito.
Public Relations Officer Kitty Chingota for ESCOM was quoted in the week saying the findings will put to rest all rumours surrounding fire outbreak that destroyed Escom house.
“This puts to rest the whole matter now. There were many rumours going on around, some claimed there was sabotage while others said other things, but Forensic report shows that the fire was an accident. We believe this has answered people’s queries”, she said.
The fire destroyed all property on the ground floor and part of the first and second floors of Escom house.
