Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry(MCCCI) President  Mathews Chikankheni has said recent reforms in Malawi Energy Sector has helped to reduce wastage in industries.

He said this in a telephone interview.

“The situation has improved, we can clearly notice it.

“This gives confidence to new players who were discouraged from making investment due to power shortage”, he said.

In agreement to his remarks, Chancellor College based economist Professor Ben Kalua said the administration has done a recommendable job in addressing the challenge.

“This has reduced barriers to entry of investors in the country”, he said.

President Joyce Banda last month commissioned the upgrade of Kapichira power plant which now doubles the power generation from its initial  64 megawatts.

The uninterrupted power supply also has brought a sigh of relief to households which have over the last month experienced less and in some case no power cuts.
