The Malawi government has started work on the cold rooms that had been out of service for a record three months at Kamuzu Central Hospitah in the capital city forcing hospital authorities to close the mortuary of the hospital.

According to reports, the works started late last night and by this time one of the three cold rooms that had been rendered useless is back in use after being repaired.

Yesterday, KCH authorities announced that they had closed down the mortuary part of the hospital after it was full. The announcement raised hair amongst Malawians and it was then that it was discovered that the hospital had only one cold room functioning instead of the actual four.

Meanwhile, some of the bodies that had been at the hospital unacclaimed were buried in a mass grave.

The minister of health, Catherine Gotani Hara, indicated that she was not aware of the problem at the hospital when contacted yesterday despite that the problem has been there for months. Her claims contradicted what the hospital authorities said which indicated that they had contacted the ministry on the issue.
