Police have refuted rumours that they have arrested former budget director Paul Mphwiyo.

The rumor making rounds on social media indicated that Mr. Mphwiyo was arrested at Kamuzu International airport as he was about to travel abroad while other reports suggest he was summoned to police headquarters in Area 30.

National police spokesperson Rhoda Manjolo said she was not aware of the development.

Her boss the deputy Inspector General Nelson Bophani referred the media to the IG Loti Dzonzi who said the police neither arrested nor summoned Mr. Mphwiyo .

Mr. Mphwiyo’s shooting on September 13 last year is believed to be the genesis of the Capitol Hill cash-gate.

He recently appeared in court to give testimony on his shooting in which among the prime suspects is former Justice Minister Raphael Kasambara.
