Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) Presidential hopeful ,Peter Mutharika has distanced himself and the party from the violence that took place over the weekend which left two people dead.

He said this at his Nyambadwe residence where he was addressing members of the  press.

Mutharika’s remarks  comes as a  reaction to what Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda said at Sanjika  Palace on Wednesday where she hosted Traditional Leaders from Thyolo .

Banda blamed Mutharika of being behind the Thyolo violence

She said  Mutharika insisted to a attend a catholic service near the venue where President Banda was hosting  a rally.

In his reaction, Mutharika said he is not a catholic member hence it was not possible for him to attend the mass.

The DPP leader said that much as his party does not condone the violence that happened, it was the PP that started it all by firstly removing its party’s flags.

Muntharika asked the police to investigate the  issue thoroughly  and bring to book the perpetrators
