Mota Engil Group through its water transport shipping arm Malawi Shipping Company has unveiled  a Malawi-soil-built ship, MV Chilembwe.

The revelation was made on Wednesday at Monkey Bay Port in Mangochi where the company took business Journalist in the country to appreciate the progress on the Ship.

“This is a happy moments for us Malawian Shipping Company, as investors and of course for people of Malawi. The MV Chilembwe is a dream come true.

“One of the key requirements  of the concession agreement signed between the government of  Malawi and the Malawi shipping Company in 2010 was that the company should procure a new vessel to operate on Lake Malawi to supplement the historic MV Ilala”, MSC General Manager said.

The mult-million dollar state of the-  art vessel is named after the freedom fighter John Chilembwe.

The vessel has a capacity of carrying 120 lay back and comfortable passengers, six crew members and  a compliment  of 20metric tonnes of Cargo.

The new MV Chilembwe which is belt from soil contains non-corrosive, alluminium material which makes it more versatile to cut any water force.
