Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court has thrashed Peter Lefutoni to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for theft of motor vehicle belonging to Bernard Kandani.

 He allegedly stole  the car on July 21, 2013.

Lilongwe police publicist, Ramsy Mushani, said that it transpired in court that Lefutoni stole three other vehicles in different occasions.

“The court heard that on July 21, 2013 using a duplicate key from unknown source the convict stole a motor vehicle registration number MC1539 Toyota Sprinter at Biwi Bottle stores in Lilongwe belonging to Bernard Kandani which was later recovered by police within Biwi location but it was, dismantled.

“The court also heard that on July 26, 2013 and August 5, 2013 using the same modus operandi, the convict stole motor vehicles registration number NU 4424 Toyota Corona Premeo of Mphatso Kadzitaye and Toyota Corolla BM 7741 belonging to Christopher Chikankheni at Biwi and Mogasa house respectively and police also managed to recover the vehicles within Kawale location,” said Mushani.

He said the accused, was charged with malicious damage contrary to section 282 (i) and 344 (i) of the penal code respectively.

Passing the sentence, magistrate Patrick Chirwa said that all the offences committed by the accused person were serious in nature and were becoming rampant.
