The ruling people’s party, (PP)has vowed to continue with subsidy programme once voted into power quashing proposal of Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) and United Democratic Front(UDF)  that they will abandon the subsidy programme and adopt Universal fertilizer once voted into power.

President Joyce Banda said this on Tuesday  in the Central region of Mchinji district she was accompanied by her running mate Sosten Gwengwe.

“I know that the country rely on agriculture  and most of the farmers are poor, I would  like to assure you that my government  won’t stop  the fertilizer subsidy programme, we will continue with it so that  we help a lot of people”, she said.

Referring to MCP,DPP and UDF manifesto who have highlighted  that once voted into power  they will abolish subsidy programme  and promote Universal  Fertilizer programme to boost Malawi’s agricultural production, Banda said  abolishing the Fertilizer subsidy is the same as killing Malawian farmers who cannot afford to buy the fertilizer at higher price.

President Banda also switched on  rural  electricity at Nkhwazi Health centre.
