Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila has down played claims by the ruling People’s party (PP) that about 200 MCP  members have defected and  joined the ruling party.

Kabwira said this on Friday  in a press briefing.

“PP is busy talking about members of other parties. Why should they lie that our members are joining their party. Instead of engaging in issue-based campaign they are busy lying. No MCP member in Mchinji has joined the PP.

“What is unfortunate is that they paraded an imposter to appear as our chairlady for Mchinji South. If this small party can lie, should it be entrusted with running government affairs for the next five years?” Kabwila said.

Present at the press conference were Chiutsi and other senior party members from Mchinji. They included district Chairman for Mchinji South Chrispine Kalioti Banda, Secretary Goodson Malithano and district chairman for Mchinji North Ponsilio Foloma Mwale.

The ruling people’s party made the revelation at the rally  held in Kasungu South.
