The media in Malawi are giving the governing People’s Party (PP) more time and space in their election coverage, a report by the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) has said.
The report, the first since the launch of the monitoring project being implemented by IWPR, was presented at the Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre on Friday by Chancellor College lecturer Edrinnie Kayambazinthu.
According to the report, PP is enjoying more coverage in both public and private media institutions, followed by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), United Democratic Front (UDF) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
The analysis, done between March 22 2014 and April 2 2014, covered the country’s two national newspapers, selected radios, Times and MBC television stations, Facebook pages and websites.
