Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), has said the second phase of voter verification exercise for the Central region and Northern region will  start next week Monday.

The  development comes barely a week after MEC conducted the same exercises in the Southern region which was marred with numerous irregularities as other registered voters could not find their names.

Reports also indicate that many people shunned the exercise, Namiwawa centre being the notable example as out of about 2500 people who registered only 500 people turned up for the exercise.

Kasungu which was the most affected district in the first exercise which was suspended has been left out in the second exercise.

Malawi will hold its general election on May 20.
