The Public Private Partnership Commission PPPC says the much awaited
fiber optic connection project which will hasten internet
connectivity, telecommunication among others, will commerce next
month.
This comes months after the East Africa Information Technology (EAIT) experts
-Simba Net emerged the preferred bidder in a quest to find an investor
who will carry out the connection project.
It is believed that the project if completed will make haste of
internet, satellite and telecommunication connectivity.
Speaking in an interview, PPPC’s Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Lipunga
who could not shade more lights on how much Simba Net has invested
said all is set for the project to start by the end of May.
“Yes we are expecting that the ongoing process will indeed see this
country registering significant improvements in telecommunications and
internet connectivity which are currently rated average and slow
respectively in the country.” Lipunga said.
Lipunga also confirmed that the said company (Simba Net) is setting up
offices in the country in readiness of the commencement of the
project.
The PPPC CEO said Simba Net has been entrusted for the project for its
experience and expertise.
“This company is available in almost all countries in Eastern Africa
and according to him this is a sign enough that it is capable of
carrying out this task in line to requirements.” Lipunga said
