As the Tobacco selling season for 2014 is in the firth Week, reports indicate that Malawi has earned over US$38 million easing the country’s pressure on tight foreign exchange situation.
This is double of the sales realized the same period in 2013.
Tobacco Control Commission (TCC), Executive Director Dr Bruce Munthali expressed satisfaction on the progress so far registered since its commencement.
“We are impressed with the pace at which the market is progressing. There is a tremendous improvement over the earnings in comparison with what we earned during the similar period last year,” said Dr Munthali.
Although this is the case, farmers continues to cry over low prices offered in all tobacco markets.
Meanwhile Tobacco remain the county’s economic backbone.
