An 18-year-old man in Nkhotakota has died while two others are missing after a boat they were peddling capsized in Lake Malawi.
Nkhotakota Police Spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino confirmed the development by saying four people including his deceased brother Vumiliya Mang’ango (18), Phonera Biliati (40) and his son Misheck Biliati went for fishing in Lake Malawi during morning hours of April 29, 2014 when the incident occurred.
Lubrino said after receiving a tip, the police and the members of the community rushed and organized a search party for the three up until on May 1, 2014 when Mang’ango was discovered floating dead on the lake.
“Postmortem conducted has revealed that the deceased died due to suffocation. Searching for the remaining two is still in progress to trace their whereabouts,” he said.
This is a second incident in Nkhotakota within this month as two brothers died again after the canoe they were traveling in capsized in Lake Chilingali.
