Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential torchbearer  Dr Lazaraus Chakwera who is one of the hot contenders in the forthcoming tripartite election on Friday promised to free Malawi from donor dependency to trade and investment.

He said this during the whistle stop tours he conducted in the capital city, Lilongwe.

In his speech in all places that Chakwera stopped and spoke to the gathering, he stressed the need for the country to move away from donor dependency.

“Malawi is famous for two main issues at the moment; Number one is cashgate and secondly is begging from the donors, we can’t operate the government like that, this will have to change.

“I am not trying to undermine the role that aid plays, but MCP’s main aim is to move away from aid dependence to trade and investment”, he said.

Meanwhile there are only less than 17 days to go for the forthcoming tripartite election.
