With less than two weeks to go before the country host its first ever tripartite election, the ruling People’s Party (PP) has blasted rigging claims by opposition political parties, saying the claims are baseless.PP acting publicity secretary

Ken Msonda said this in an interview with one of the local daily parties in the country.

“If the opposition and other stakeholders advancing opposition political parties agenda have evidence regarding elections rigging allegations let them bring evidence, report to MEC  (Malawi Electoral Commission) and Police rather than making unfounded, undemocratic, senseless and childish allegations just to confuse people, create fear, anxiety and tension among Malawians”, he said.

The PP remarks comes barely a day after the opposition political parties unanimously urged Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to make sure that the forthcoming tripartite election is free, fair and credible.

The preparations to May 20 polls has been marred with lots of irregularities raising fears of rigging with all fingers pointing to the current regime.
