The country’s Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali has warned the ruling People’s Party cadres to desist from any acts of rigging in  the forthcoming tripartite election.

Kachali sounded the warning through his facebook page.

“Let me issue a very strong warning to PP cadres that as the first Chairperson of President Joyce Banda’s Campaign Committee, I personally participated in the development of the Peoples Party Campaign Strategy. Peoples Party should therefore desist and I mean seriously desist from such tactics as rigging the election through bought Voters Identity Cards which have been distributed to ‘bought’ supporters from Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania, and also desist from disenfranchising voters in opposition party strongholds through ‘deliberate ‘violence.

“I intend to sit down with all opposition parties and the civil society where I will share all the illegal and sometimes evil means which PP plans to employ in order to disturbalise the electoral process and it’s my hope that us Malawians, will remain vigilante on the elections day”, said Kachali.

His warning comes barely few days after opposition political parties  made the same call to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)  at the final round of Presidential debate held at Victoria Hotel in Blantyre on Tuesday.

Kachali  however , has  pledged  to ensure that the forthcoming tripartite election is free, fair and credible.
