The ruling People’s Party (PP) said the party intends to form an Alliance with some political parties who have never ruled the country before.
PP spokesperson Ken Msonda said this in an interview with one of the daily papers where he denied mentioning the party.
“It is not just the running mates and members of other parties who are coming to PP; most presidential candidates, especially those of small parties have also expressed interest to join PP. Do you think a running mate or a vice-president can just dump their parties and come to PP without the blessing of their president?.
“What is holding the presidential candidates from joining us now is that they already submitted nomination papers to MEC [Malawi Electoral Commission],” he said.
Meanwhile one of the smallest party president Mark Katsonga Phiri denied the PP’s claim.
PP is in alliance with Alliance for Democracy (Aford) lead by Enock Chihana.
