Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Presidential torchbearer Dr Lazarus Chakwera has described the late Dr Hastings  Kamuzu Banda as a hero for all Malawians.

He said this on Wednesday during the Kamuzu day celebrations that took place at Malawi’s President mausoleum in Lilongwe.

“We wouldn’t be celebrating a jubilee if that stupid federation was not broken. This just means that MCP still comes first. As a son of Africa he demonstrated his leadership skills and made sacrifices. He led a good foundation for development for this nation,” he said.

In her  speech,  Rosemary Chilemba, a niece to Banda urged the government to make sure that the place  where Banda was born or led to rest are well taken care of.

Kamuzu Banda whose birthday was celebrated yesterday is regarded as the further and founder of Malawi nation . He died at the age of 92 after ruling the country for 31 years.
