Unofficial results from fifteen districts indicate that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika is leading with a gap of about 400, 000 votes.

Information relayed from the fifteen districts that have had their votes already counted and finalized has indicated that Mutharika has gotten 940, 211 and is being trailed by Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) who has 559, 840. Meanwhile, the third position from the fifteen districts is occupied by Joyce Banda who has 357, 209 votes. Atupele Muluzi of the UDF is on fourth position 165, 234.

The fifteen districts that have finalized their counting are Zomba, Mulanje, Balaka, Chiradzulu, Thyolo, Neno, Dedza, Mchinji, Ntchisi, Dowa, Salima, Ntcheu, Likoma, NkhataBay and Rumphi.

Malawi has a total of 29 districts.
