Reports from Lilongwe indicate that outgoing President Joyce Banda was taken to the Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) this afternoon after addressing members of the press for high blood pressure.

According to journalist Rebecca Chimjeka, a source at the state house had disclosed to her that President Banda had had problems with her blood pressure and her medical team had thought it best that they rush her to the hospital where late Bingu wa Mutharika was taken to when he collapsed at the state house in April 2011.

It has been reported that Banda looked unwell when she addressed the press in the morning and was oftentimes caught confused-looking and had been mistaking the day for night such that he had been greeting the journalists with the evening greeting saying ‘good evening’.

President Banda appears to not accept the fact that she has lost the elections although the race has been said to be between DPP leader Peter Mutharika and MCP leader Lazarus Chakwera.
