Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has backed the  Preliminary results released by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) yesterday night.

MESN chairperson Steve Duwa said this during a press briefing held today at Mount Soche  Hotel in Blantyre. The briefing was aiming at tallying the Preliminary official results announced by electoral body.

“The preliminary results released yesterday by MEC are true reflection of what is actually on the ground as the results were directly collected right away from the centres and the results were signed by all political party monitors.

“We (MESN) deployed 800 observers in all 193 constituencies who monitored the whole electoral process,” said Duwa.

He further said that ‘it is not true that certain monitors of political parties were denied a chance to verify the results in some centres.

This is in response to the the claims made by the ruling People’s Party(PP) and United Democratic front (UDF).

Meanwhile, Joyce Banda and Atupele Muluzi are still disputing the unofficial results being released and they are calling for the manual recounts of the votes.
