President Joyce Banda who is on her way out of office has reiterated that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under the leadership of Peter Mutharika rigged the elections and has indicated that she wants a recount of the votes. This is after earlier President Banda had earlier wanted a nullification of the elections which was challenged by the courts.
Today, Banda has released a press statement which has reiterated that the vote was rigged and there must be a recount.
In the press statement, Banda has outlined reasons as to why she is not comfortable with DPP’s unofficial win of the elections. Among others, Banda has alleged that the DPP hacked the computer of the Malawi Electoral Commission and tampered with the results.
Banda has further wondered why the DPP is afraid of a recount if the elections they are indicated to have won are free and fair.
Banda has been said to be on position 3 in the elections in which her Peoples’ Party has fared miserably.
