Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has disclosed that the body has so far tallied 99.8 percent of the results and the results will be ready within the eight days period as required by the law.
MEC Chief Election Officer Willy Kalonga said this yesterday night.
The eight days period expires on Friday 30 this week.
Chief Elections Officer said there has not been any satisfactory word from their lawyers on the matter, saying in this case they were ready to respect the law and announce the results by Friday.
The Commissioners risk arrest if they don’t release the results by Friday as required by the Electoral laws because the body has not challenged the contempt of court leveled against them for wanting to proceed with vote recounting.
Meanwhile Kalonga said Commissioners will be meeting MEC lawyers for legal advice.
