The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has just declared that it is ready to declare the results on Friday if the High court does not allow it to extend the days that will accommodate a voter recount.

Speaking at a press briefing just this evening, Mec chair Maxon Mbendera disclosed that the commission was ready and willing to release results of elections on Friday, May 30, once the court orders them to do.

“We are releasing the results on Friday once the decision by the courts is not in favour of an extension of thirty days for us to do a recount,” said Mbendera while flanked by other commissioners of the electoral body.

Mbendera’s decision was welcomed by applause from the blue camp which are assured of a victory once Mec makes the announcement on Friday if the courts will refuse to grant Mec an extension.
