Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Maxon Mbendera has urged the newly elected President of the republic of Malawi Professor Peter Mutharika to put the welfare of people at heart as he take up the high office.

Mbendera said this today during the official announcement of the winner of the May 20 tripartite election at the national tally centre in Blantyre.

In his speech, Mbendera urged Mutharika to focus on what matters to people of Malawi and also spend the Malawi’s tax payers money responsibly.

He further urged Mutharika to execute his duties with honest.

Mutharika of DPP has outclassed the incumbent President Joyce Banda of People’s Party and the long serving party Malawi Congress Party (MCP) lead by Lazarus Chakwera.
