Barely a few days in office, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has gone in a war of words with former President Joyce Banda of the Peoples’ Party (PP) who shunned the inauguration of Peter Mutharika who is also the leader of the DPP.
In a television news bulletin, DPP spokesperson labeled President Banda as a liar for her claim that she was not invited to the inauguration of Mutharika yet her absence.
Banda, through her spokesperson, indicated that she had failed to go to the inauguration of Mutharika in Blantyre because she was not invited. Dausi, however, said it was untrue.
“Banda is lying. We sent invitation letters to all former Presidents and Vice Presidents as well as opposition party leaders. She just wished to not come,” said Dausi.
Dausi further dismissed reports that Mutharika had taken away cars from Banda as reported on social media. He said that Banda has some cars with her as a former head of state is entitled to.
“Those who are saying that should explain how Banda moved from the state house to Nkhatabay. Is she still in Lilongwe? I thought she is in Nkhatabay, who took her there? She did not go on foot,” Dausi said.
The DPP has been known to control the public broadcaster airwaves with greed and have appeared on the television daily with no coverage to the opposition political parties.
